I became interested in this topic once I started working as a Sales Associate at a luxurious store in Dolphin Mall. I found it so interesting that South Americans, mainly Brazilians, would travel to Miami just for the brand name products they could purchase. When I ask travelers from these nations how they are enjoying the beaches or nightlife in Miami, they typically inform me that they had not visited the beaches but were here stictly on business…shopping business, that is. The prices offered for American brand name products are much cheaper in Miami outlet malls than they are in their home countries. Many come into my store and purchase in bulk to then retun to their country and sell at a higher rate. Interestingly enough, although these prices are “unbeatable,” these tourists still jump at any opportunity for discounts!
